Creating Value from Waste

Terax is commercialising an innovative method of converting sludge, a by-product of waste water treatment plants, into usable products

The Problem

Waste water treatment plants produce 100m+ tonnes of “sludge” globally per annum.

Sludge is the residual, semi-solid material that is produced as a by-product of the sewage treatment process.

Currently, sludge is disposed of in environmentally unfriendly ways due to cost.

The Status Quo

Globally, sludge is either incinerated at high temperatures or put to landfill.

Both methods are costly (up to $250 per tonne), harmful to the environment and often hazardous.

There is a strong need for a more economic and environmentally friendly solution

Terax’s Solution

Terax’s patented technology enables sludge to be processed into:

  • Ash
  • Ammonia
  • Dissolved carbon
  • and Phosphate ash

These products can be used in industrial processes, as construction materials, as a fertiliser as well as being re-used within the Waste water treatment plant itself.
